The primary purpose of the position is to promote and expand the outdoor recreation industry sectors in North Carolina. The Director will serve as the public face of NC’s outdoor recreation industry, conveying the state’s tremendous recreation assets and opportunities through both marketing campaigns and direct interactions with companies and organizations with an interest in relocating or expanding to North Carolina.
This office will work with existing companies that may be seeking to expand their outdoor recreation activities, to identify and recruit new companies that manufacture outdoor recreation products (or that are part of the outdoor recreation value chain), and market North Carolina as a leading outdoor recreation economic hub. This position would represent North Carolina for various business opportunities in all geographic regions of the state.
Identifying high-growth outdoor recreation companies for North Carolina to pursue for business recruitment purposes.
Developing the strategy and supporting budget to promote the state as a business location to industry decision makers and influencers through marketing events, industry gatherings, and one-on-one business-development meetings.
Following outdoor recreation industry news and responding to opportunities by positioning North Carolina for consideration by companies evaluating new facility locations.
Working closely and leveraging the resources of the EDPNC’s internal teams (i.e. existing industry, small business start-up counseling, international trade, travel & tourism) to grow the state’s outdoor recreation economy through expansions of existing outdoor recreation companies and support of entrepreneurs in the outdoor recreation industry (e.g. outfitters, guide services, etc.).
Utilizing the EDPNC’s overseas offices on any opportunities involving foreign outdoor recreation companies seeking to establish U.S. operations.
Partnering with outdoor recreation industry associations, related private & non-profit businesses, North Carolina congressional delegation members, and other strategic partners on business-development and marketing efforts.
Providing project-management support for qualified leads generated through business-development activities, as well as project-management support for non-O/R industry recruitment efforts (that involve companies interested in the state’s outdoor recreation environment as a measure of quality of life)
Representing North Carolina’s outdoor recreation industry at key functions across the country to further connect the industry beyond state lines and build the state’s prominence nationally as a leader in outdoor recreation.
Helping communities in the state to recognize and capitalize on the value of their outdoor recreation assets, including helping to identify and address underutilized assets and areas for infrastructure improvement and economic development.
Working with state agencies and departments, as well as partner agencies at the federal, regional, and local levels, on strategies to invest in, promote, and maximize the impact of public lands and other recreational assets in NC.
Bachelor’s degree required.
At least 5 to 7 years of previous business-development experience focused on the outdoor recreation industry strongly desired.
Working knowledge of Salesforce CRM system strongly desired.
Must have experience with Microsoft Office programs (Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
Must have strong teamwork skills, excellent verbal and written communication, and high level of work ethic.
Must be highly organized and have a commitment to excellence and customer service.
Experience working in a fast-paced environment and remaining calm under pressure are highly valued.
