A day in the life: As Director, Product Sustainability, you lead and inspire an ambitious, talented and developing team, and hold an vital role in catalyzing impact through product and material strategies. You bring strategic, technical approaches and leadership experience to enable brand aligned delivery of our Product Sustainability strategy. To do this you drive the Product Sustainability Roadmaps, supporting and enabling the cross-functional partners in interpreting, developing and delivering the projects within it. Through your understanding of technical solutions and the business you easily identify and prioritize opportunities and risks to manage the strategy in reaching targets and furthering innovation. Your leadership and exemplary manner will inspire and foster progress within teams with which you partner, including but not exclusive to Raw Materials, Sourcing, Design, Quality, Merchandising, Whitespace, Brand, Production and Retail, among other. You work closely with Director Sustainable Design to evolve and implement our vision. As a newly formed role, a day in the life of the Director or Product Sustainability is inspiring and varied enabling you create real impact to a global brand that is prioritizing sustainability in their agenda. On any one day, you work toward objectives including:
Leading vision, strategy and roadmap creation for Product (and Manufacturing) sustainability in collaboration with VP, team and functional leaders. Contribute to Corporate Impact Agenda.
Inspiring, coaching and enabling an exceptional cross functional team, for individual and team performance and impact at scale.
Supporting Product Strategy implementation and operationalization, to enable commercial adoption of product with measurable impact.
Scout out and scope apparel sustainability innovation and opportunities, ensuring ideas bought forwards meet and compliment the roadmap remit.
Building target and measurement systems. Ensure timely reporting that enables decision-making to achieve ambitious internal goals, including internal and vendor facing scorecards, seasonal dashboards and forecasts, and other reporting. Evolve measures and targets to include tracking of actual impact (e.g. water, climate).
Empower teams and individuals to support the vision and targets through the portfolio of educational tools. Offer leading practice and technical expertise to accelerate positive progress across impact areas.
Collaborating with stakeholders to create strategies that appropriately communicate efforts to internal and external audiences.
Build compelling, industry specific business cases, budgets and program requests for initiatives. Identify, research and prepare to engage in core issues, reactively and proactively.
Develop partnerships with topic thought leaders, strategic suppliers and as appropriate represent lululemon’s interests at external meetings and conferences, to accelerate shared progress and achieve our strategies and requirements.
Leadership: 8+ years in a sustainability leadership role in apparel linked to product and supply chain within a progressive consumer facing brand (and consulting experience a bonus).
Technical experience: Technical depth and expertise, rooted in material science and product background with a reputable network of global suppliers. Topic areas to include chemistry, sustainability, clothing innovation and business.
Strategy: Demonstrated strategy development, planning and operational execution, drawing on insight across areas, applying creative as well as systematic approach.
Product development: Demonstrated product creation expertise, including internal processes such as PDM, GTM calendars and related systems.
Sustainability: Strong understanding of planetary issues and impact measurement, and translation to industry risk, impact and opportunity.
Innovation: Passion for new technologies, processes and products and the ability to assess the experience in effectively engaging at all levels of organization, management systems, business case development.
People Skills: Exceptional people engagement and inspiration, with 8+ years of experience and vision for leading people and teams in a fast moving and relatively complex organization. Demonstrated experience in effectively engaging at all levels of organization, management systems, business case development.
Academic Qualifications: Advanced degree that includes technical science and/or chemistry.
Communication: Exceptional communicator with ability to authentically and effectively engage with partners from various background, from supply chain, to brand, to finance. You can make complex concepts easy
