Who you will be working with:
Reports to the Public Relations and Social Media Manager in Sunderland, Vermont. Interfaces internally with the Senior Director of Marketing, Merchandising Leads, Creative Leads, and C-Suite Executives, VP & Director level business leads (as “clients”), fellow marketing department associates, and associates in departments throughout the company. Works externally as required with PR agency, conservation partners, and marketing vendors. Will require written and verbal correspondence with customers from time to time. This is an individual contributor, exempt position. Our Vermont location is a dog-friendly office, so you may also have a few 4-legged office mates as well. Things you will commonly be working on:
Set the execution strategy for yearly PR efforts across the brand in partnership with category leads
Manage relationship with Orvis’s PR agency of record
Identify, assess and prioritize key brand storytelling initiatives in partnership with the PR Manager and Senior Director of Marketing
Drive storytelling requirements internally in collaboration with Creative, Marketing and Content development teams.
Create, manage, and communicate PR dashboard, tracking and celebrating wins with internal stakeholders
Build and maintain assets to help drive earned media efforts, like Orvis’s online pressroom and seasonal brand look books
Identify and create media trips and events in partnership with our PR agency of record
Support retail store efforts and events through PR
Field daily inquiries from media and coordinates response with PR Agency, including image requests, sample returns
Assist with development and coordination of corporate marketing special projects and manage select projects from time to time as assigned
Qualifications that will ensure that you hit the ground running:
BA or BS in public relations, communications, marketing or journalism or related field
Minimum 3-5 years in a public relations and/or marketing communications role
Demonstrated ability to secure earned media placements in targeted outlets in support of organizational goals
Experience managing/coordinating media events
Crisis communications experience
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Superb writing and editing experience across a variety of documents, including press releases, bylines, campaign and creative briefs, pitches and presentations
Strong organizational skills and sense of urgency, with strict attention to deadlines
A positive and friendly attitude and the ability to interact with a variety of personalities to form strong, reliable business relationships both internally and externally
Qualifications and skills, we hope you have:
Experience in the outdoor industry with a subsequent network preferred
Strategic thinker with proven ability to connect PR wins with tangible goals and outcomes
A passion for conservation is a big plus
