As Columbia’s Sustainability & Traceability Program Manager you will play an integral part of this work.
Within this role you will support our leap from measurement to impact by putting in place leading measurement and analytics mechanisms, unlocking the power of data to inform strategic insights for the business. This entails managing a diverse portfolio of sustainability measurement, analytics projects and high-profile initiatives. Here you’ll collaborate with cross-functional partners to ensure awareness, agreement, alignment and commitment across the organization.
You will also ensure Columbia has the programs and policies in place to responsibly source materials. This includes developing and implementing responsible material sourcing & traceability policies, programs with the goal of sustaining Columbia’s adherence to the highest ethical standards and compliance with global regulatory requirements. You’ll be responsible for managing, tracking, verifying and reporting information related to traceability of raw materials used in varied products including Conflict Minerals disclosure under the US Dodd-Frank Act, certified organic materials, recycled materials, animal based materials such as natural goose down, leather and wool.
Develop digitized environmental analytics and insights framework and dashboard applications, in partnership with internal IT partners, to inform impact reduction initiatives, hot spot identification and general sustainability strategy. These solutions will include financial and business implications in addition to general sustainability impacts.
Serve as a technical knowledge resource to business partners on methods for tracking environmental impacts for owned & operated facilities, products & materials and supply chain.
Manage development of systems and process to increase and maintain responsible materials sourcing and supply chain traceability.
Serve as a technical knowledge resource to business partners and suppliers on responsible material sourcing & traceability.
Manage systems for gathering and tracking raw material and finished good information, data, certifications and documents related to material source verification.
Implement and oversee supply chain monitoring and due diligence processes to fulfil reporting and disclosure obligations for raw materials including Conflict Minerals.
Works closely with Finance, Legal, Materials Research, Corporate Responsibility, Product, Manufacturing teams and company subsidiaries to execute programs.
Responsible for supporting resolution of complex supplier interactions and situations, including but not limited to, non-compliance issues and Corrective Action Plans (CAP).
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Environmental Studies or related field
Requires 5 to 8 years of experience in relevant role in consumer product manufacturing, materials science, IT, traceability, or related experience in similar role. Experience in the apparel and/or footwear industry preferred.
5+ years project management experience
Experience conducting a carbon footprint in compliance with GHG protocol
Knowledge of industry standard measurement methodologies such as the Higg Index and Life Cycle Analysis approach.
Knowledge of material traceability standards
Experience using Microsoft Excel for reporting and business modelling
Understanding of Power BI or similar business intelligence tool or reporting environment
Understanding of SAP or similar ERP systems
Knowledge of PLM product management software solutions
Ability to travel 10-15% of the time domestically and internationally; up to 2 trips per year to visit factories with additional travel to resolve issues, as needed
Ability to work a flexible schedule due to travel including overnights and weekends
