In this comprehensive role the candidate will participate in all aspects of product design and development. The candidate will work alongside other associates, especially collaborating with other design associates, to ensure a cohesive and efficient product design and development process.
Product design involves understanding needs of product concepts from early on in the design process, generating creative ideas, prototyping, testing, refining and transitioning to manufacturable items, all while understanding manufacturing calendars and deadlines, developing items with outside (both domestic and international) vendors, and carrying the products through to shipping retail-packaged goods.

Problem identification and goal definition through design, prototyping and testing, and into manufacturing and production.
Perform product updates and improvements.
Engage in product development activities, including vendor communication and cooperation.
Perform light/basic engineering analysis and tasks, such as part geometry analysis, stress analysis, physical testing, etc.
Assist in creating assets for the Sales and Marketing teams, such as creating sales and marketing samples, collaborating on marketing and sales literature, and assisting with retail packaging design and user instruction manuals.
Maintain brand consistency across product lines by paying careful attention to quality and functionality, focusing on the end user, and utilizing a consistent design language.
Travel to trade shows to support Kahtoola’s business and the Marketing and Sales teams.
Required Job Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Industrial Design or Mechanical Engineering, or equivalent experience.
Demonstrated skill and competency in a wide range of design functions including sketching, CAD modeling, prototyping, problem solving and design for manufacturing.
Comprehensive understanding of technical hard goods design, construction, fabrication, and manufacturing processes and techniques.
Possess strong written and verbal communication skills to communicate with team members and global partners.
Highly productive in Adobe Suite and CAD software (Solidworks or Fusion 360).
A demonstrated record of applying problem solving to product design.
Ability to travel up to 15% of the time, both domestically and internationally.
Preferred Experience and Skills:
Professional experience with design, development, and production processes from start to finish.
Experience traveling to and working independently with overseas factories.
Work experience directly related to outdoor products innovation and development.
Graphic design experience (or related experience).
Knowledge of soft goods, garment construction, fabrications and/or trim applications.
This is a year-round, full-time position located in Flagstaff, AZ.
