On our journey to become a Purpose Driven Brand, we are in search of a forward thinking, world class, Global Manager of Environmental & Social Responsibility. The ideal candidate will be a respected leader and visionary who is already driving change and is comfortable working at all levels of an organization. We are seeking a leader to develop and deliver our ESG philosophies, strategies, and priorities, and guide us through setting up GHG targets and timelines, with a specific focus on our materials. We want to make a positive impact in society, and we need your help, vision, and drive to make sure we do it in a deliberate and well-planned way. Leading change in a growing organization takes patience, tact and awareness, and you will serve as the internal and external subject matter expert.

Job Summary:

At Darn Tough Vermont®, sustainability is the intersection of environmental, social, and economic viability. The Global Manager of Environmental & Social Responsibility, a pioneering role for Darn Tough, will be responsible for designing and implementing company strategy and programs for enhancing positive impact on our communities while lowering environmental impact. Our ideal candidate is a highly organized and collaborative systems thinker who proactively builds partnerships with stakeholders inside and outside the company including Product, Procurement, Marketing, Operations, Safety, Sales, Finance and Human Resources, all while working with a high level of autonomy. The Manager of Environmental & Social Responsibility should be both analytical and creative with their ideas, continually balancing the company’s fiduciary responsibilities with advancing sustainability throughout the business. The role will have responsibility for guiding and pushing the Darn Tough Leadership team to think, reach and act with heightened understanding and urgency.


Primary Responsibilities

· Lead the strategy, objectives, management, and key results tracking of the company’s environmental and social sustainability efforts; analyze current practices, identify key improvement areas, prioritize initiatives, then create a near and long-term integrated action plan.

· Own GHG measurement, abatement planning, and reduction efforts in partnership with Operations, Finance, and the senior leadership team

· Work with the Product Innovation team to prioritize the testing and conversion of our fiber mix to alternative, lower impact processes and materials.

· Partner closely with the Director of Global Brand to drive the vision, strategy and timeline that moves Darn Tough towards our goal of becoming a purpose driven brand.

· Lead the organization in implementing and adhering to RWS certification.

· Work with Marketing to develop and manage communications on the sustainability practices of Darn Tough.

· Develop internal and external sustainability reports, presentations, and proposals by creating and maintaining sustainability KPIs and other metrics; monitor competitive sustainability practices and benchmark Darn Tough within the outdoor and apparel industries.

· Represent Darn Tough at conferences and other targeted thought leadership events.

· Communicate new strategies to colleagues, stakeholders and vendors in a way that is easy to understand.

· Address all aspects of environmental management across our owned and operated facilities including the following programs: Air, DOT, EPCRA, Hazardous Waste, Land Use, RCRA, Solid Waste, SPCC, Stormwater, Universal Waste, and wetlands. Create documentation and complete compliance tracking, annual reporting, and training out of the programs.

· Work with suppliers and partners throughout our supply chain to adopt, comply with, and maintain adherence to our Restricted Substances List (RSL)


· Bachelor's Degree required, Master’s Degree preferred with 5+ years working within corporate or product sustainability on both a strategic and operational level.

· Working knowledge of industry tools, standards, and disclosure initiatives including Higg Product and Facility tools, the GHG Protocol, bluesign®, Responsible Wool Standard, SASB/GRI, TCFD, SDGs, CFMB, CDP and SBTi.

· Strong understanding of existing and forthcoming environmental, social, and regulatory policies in North America, EMEA, and APAC desired, particularly those related to textiles and apparel

· Knowledge of textiles, soft goods manufacturing and sourcing, and related sustainability challenges and opportunities required.

· Experience with GHG inventory/carbon accounting and abatement across Scopes 1, 2 and 3 preferred.

· Keen attention to detail and accuracy is necessary to analyze and track emissions and progress against GHG abatement efforts.

· Organized, responsive, and able to gain support and consensus with multiple stakeholders.

· Strong project management experience, including the ability to manage multiple complex projects simultaneously.

· Proven interpersonal skills and ability to work in a diverse team environment with various personality types to get the work done; ability to relate well and show respect and consideration for others.

· Experience working on Net Zero commitments, target setting, planning, and corporate alignment highly desired.

· Excellent written and verbal communication.

· Enthusiasm for challenge and new initiatives.
