Nike Manufacturing and Sourcing teams constantly challenge the assumptions about how products are made. They come up with big ideas, test principles and perfect production processes. They work closely with Nike’s hundreds of manufacturing partners across multiple countries to develop new methods of making to create better-performing products with less waste. The Manufacturing and Sourcing organization is looking for dynamic interns to join their teams across a variety of functional areas.  These opportunities are specific to AIR Manufacturing Innovation (AIR MI). 
DESIGN ENGINEERING INTERN  
As our Design Engineering Intern, you will join the team to assist in one or more of the following areas: product design & development, tooling design, and manufacturing of products related to Nike Air. You will be mentored by your design engineering and cross functional teammates and use your 3D design and engineering skills to execute product and tooling designs as dictated by the program(s) to which you are assigned. You’ll use 3D software (almost exclusively SolidWorks), engineering and/or machine design knowledge and ideas, additive manufacturing technology, and hands on experiences to design, refine or modify, and carefully document tooling designs and machine components. 
Alongside your design engineering teammates, you will work with other engineers (development, process, manufacturing, and quality), the in-house machine shop, and production teams throughout the phases of the program(s) or project(s) to which you are assigned. 
Additional Requirements  
  • Preferred degree: Mechanical Engineering or similar field 
  • Knowledge of manufacturing processes, industrial equipment, and concepts such as Design for Manufacturing/Assembly  
  • Some proficiency in CAD software 
  • Tooling or machine design experience preferred  
  • 3D printing experience a bonus 
  • Experience with fabrication / machining processes a bonus 
 
INDUSTRIAL ENGINEERING INTERN  
As our Industrial Engineering Intern, you will join the team to assist in the optimization of manufacturing cells and processes related to the production of Nike Air. Your work could include performing foundational studies on platforms or production/manufacturing processes, for the purpose of identifying and characterizing top opportunities to increase efficiency, improve and/or standardizing manufacturing processes. 
Any work will involve processes or platform support that is not tied to an innovation program.  You will be mentored by your industrial engineering and cross functional teammates and use your engineering skills to execute against product development or continuous improvement efforts as dictated by the program(s) to which you are assigned. 
Your work may also include using IE tools to facilitate the development of new processes (or process changes) to improve efficiency or throughput in production. Alongside your industrial engineering teammates, you will work some or all of the following teams throughout the phases of the project(s) or program(s) to which you are assigned: engineers (quality, automation/equipment, process, development, design, costing), the in-house machine shop, finance, and production teams. 
Additional Requirements  
  • Preferred degree: Industrial or Manufacturing Engineering 
  • Foundational IE knowledge such as time and motion studies/analysis, simulation, lean methodology knowledge, and systems thinking perspective.   
  • Previous internship in manufacturing facility preferred 
 
PROCESS ENGINEERING INTERN  
As our Process Engineering Intern, you will join the team to assist in the manufacturing of products related to Nike Air and to Footwear. Your work could include process development, tooling optimization, machine optimization, or production support. You will be mentored by your process engineering and cross functional teammates and use your engineering skills to execute product development or continuous improvement efforts as dictated by the program(s) to which you are assigned. 
You’ll use engineering and/or machine knowledge and ideas, and hands on experiences to design, refine or modify, and carefully document machine processes and parameters. Alongside your manufacturing engineering teammates, you will work with other engineers (development, design, and quality), the in-house machine shop, and production teams throughout the phases of the program(s) or project(s) to which you are assigned. 
Additional Requirements  
  • Preferred degrees: Mechanical, Chemical, Industrial, or Manufacturing Engineering 
  • A degree in Plastics Engineering or experience with plastics is a bonus 
  • Background in robotics, formula SAE, or other activity that requires knowledge of tools, mechanics, and teamwork. 
  • Must be comfortable working hands-on  
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to work with a team 
  • Exposure to Six Sigma/Lean manufacturing principles and concepts 
 
QUALITY ENGINEERING INTERN  
As our Quality Engineering Intern, you will join the team to assist in managing the outgoing quality of manufactured products related to Nike Air and to footwear. Your work could include working with manufacturing engineering team in process development, supporting continuous improvement efforts in manufacturing or lab, working on finding root cause analysis, as well as production support. You will be mentored by your quality engineering and cross functional teammates to use your engineering and data analysis skills to execute and drive decisions on product(s)/project(s) alongside your manufacturing and quality engineering teammates.  
Additional Requirements  
  • Preferred degrees: Mechanical or Industrial Engineering, or Material Science 
  • A degree in Plastics Engineering or experience with plastics is a bonus 
  • Excellent interpersonal skills and able to work with a team 
  • Knowledge of Six Sigma statistics tools and/or experience with statistical software 
  • Familiarity with the 8D/RCA approach to solving problems & data analysis skills
 
AUTOMATION/EQUIPMENT ENGINEERING INTERN 
As our Automation/Equipment Engineering Intern, you join the team to assist in one or more of the following areas: design, build/purchase, and install new production equipment with an eye towards automation. You’ll provide technical support to maintain, repair and/or replace equipment and automation tools, as well as modify existing production equipment to improve both reliability and functionality.
A requirement for this position is a demonstrated ability to understand, create and/or modify electrical control systems for industrial equipment including robotics. This includes panel layout, schematic drawings, PLC, HMI, pick and place, and robotic software creation.  Experience with vision systems is a plus. Alongside your automation/equipment engineering teammates, you will work with some or all of the following teams throughout the phases of the project(s) or program(s) to which you are assigned: engineers (process, industrial, design, costing), facilities, maintenance, and production teams. 
Additional Requirements  
  • Preferred degrees: Electrical or Mechanical Engineering, or related program 
  • Experience in designing electrical systems for industrial equipment required 
  • Experience in programming preferred 
  • Experience with troubleshooting industrial machinery which requires strong knowledge in both electrical and mechanical systems preferred 
  • Some proficiency in CAD is a bonus 
 
QUALIFICATIONS FOR ALL ROLES:
  • Currently pursuing an undergraduate degree with an anticipated graduation of December 2022 or Spring/Summer 2023 
  • Strong desire to work in a manufacturing environment required 
  • Experience in a high-volume and/or high mix manufacturing environment is preferred 
  • Ability to analyze problems, assess data, use basic math and statistics, and deal with ambiguity and frequent changes in priorities  
  • Ability to handle multiple competing projects simultaneously 
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills 
  • Energetic team player who is eager to learn 
  • Knowledge of sporting goods products preferred  
  • Passionate about Nike products and the consumer
